Sometimes being Irish can be a bit of a drag. For one thing your political overlords are an inept bunch, the economy is teetering, the cutbacks are digging in everywhere. And, of course, the weather is always crap.

But recently things have been looking pretty good. The Paddies won the six nations rugby at the weekend and Brian O´Driscoll was welcomed into the Pantheon of the gods after playing his last game in a green jersey.

And then of course we had Saint Patrick´s day when everyone took advantage of the occasion by pinning shamrocks to their clothes and downing innumerable pints.

Last week my brother was talking to his young son John about the various crazy things the Irish get up to in order celebrate the big day. There are all the parades and the green pints, of course, but John pointed out that there were now plans to colour the water of the “Viagra Falls”
