For some time now I have been painting trout in watercolours and, slowly, after many failures and abandoned efforts, they are beginning to take shape.

I have just completed a little “batch” of brown trout showing some of the extraordinary range of colour variation that makes these fish so interesting. Each of these trout is modelled on a particular fish. Three of them are “Irish” browns and come waters with which I am familiar. The fourth comes from the Mataura river in New Zealand´s South Island. I used to live close to this wonderful river many years ago and I would love to visit it again some time.

Anyway, here are the four trout.
